3.2.12. Check and adjustment of gaps of valves

Calculation of thickness of adjusting laying of the valve

A. Inlet valve
E. Final valve
1. The measured gap
2. A difference between 1 and 3
3. Normal gap
4. Thickness of the established adjusting laying
5. The calculated thickness of new adjusting laying

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check of adjustment of valves needs to be made after emergence of knock of valves, capital repairs of the engine or at reduction of engine capacity. You make check and adjustment on the cold engine.
2. Tighten the emergency brake, lift a forward part of the car and remove the right forward wheel.
3. Remove plastic protection of a wing for access to a bolt of fastening of a pulley of the crankshaft.
4. Turn for a bolt of fastening of a pulley the crankshaft before combination of openings in a pulley and the block of cylinders and block a pulley an adjusting core. For simplification of a provorachivaniye of the crankshaft unscrew fuel nozzles.
5. Uncover a head of the block of cylinders.
6. Draw the scheme of the engine and number cylinders from 1 to 4. The cylinder 1 is from the transmission. On each cylinder draw inlet and final valves. Above each cylinder in the drawing draw two horizontal lines. On the line No. 1 write down the actual gap of all valves, and on the line No. 2 – the size to which it is necessary to change a gap for obtaining the required gap size.
7. Turn the crankshaft before full closing of the inlet valve of the cylinder 1, i.e. the cam-shaft cam on this valve has to look up.
8. Using the probe, measure a gap between the basis of a cam and a pusher. Make record of the actual gap on the line No. 1 opposite to the corresponding valve.
9. Repeat measurement for the remained seven valves, turning the crankshaft as required so that the cam of the checked valve was directed up.
10. Calculate a difference between the actual and required gap and write down on the line No. 2.
11. If all gaps are in the required limits, establish a cover of a head of the block of cylinders, establish a plastic covering under a wing, establish a wheel and lower the car. If the actual gap does not meet standard, it is necessary to make adjustment.

Adjustment

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove a cam-shaft.
2. Remove the first pusher from a head and take adjusting laying from the top part of the valve. Carefully wipe adjusting laying and measure its thickness by a micrometer. Adjusting laying is usually marked, but their thickness can decrease due to wear.
3. Referring to measurements of gaps of valves, it is necessary to determine thickness of new adjusting laying. If the actual gap of the valve was more demanded, then thickness of adjusting laying has to be increased by the size which is written down on the line No. 2 opposite to the corresponding valve. If the actual gap of the valve was less demanded, then thickness of adjusting laying has to be reduced by the size which is written down on the line No. 2 opposite to the corresponding valve.
4. In the drawing draw three horizontal lines below each valve. On the line No. 4 write down the measured thickness of adjusting laying, then add or subtract the value which is written down on the line No. 2. As a result thickness of laying which needs to be established for receiving an optimum gap of the valve turns out. It needs to be written down on the line No. 5.
5. Repeat operation on the choice of a new adjusting plate for the remained valves.
6. At installation of new laying establish it by marking down. From above on adjusting laying establish pushers.
7. Establish a cam-shaft and repeatedly measure a gap of valves.
